They’re bringing back wooly mammoth!!!!
Japanese scientists from Riken RI in Kobe have successfully brought back some dead mice previously stored at -20 degrees for 16 years. They took the DNA out of the brains and use it to clone those mice, and now they have reported that the cloned animals are alive and breeding normally. Interesting. Some other scientists have voiced their doubts though. They are not sure that the DNA contained in the brain is still intact. Anyway if those Japanese geeks are right, we are one step closer to having a real Jurassic Park! And i want mammoth in there! Im not exactly a zoo person but i’ll go to the zoo if it has a mammoth ahahha.
After we bring back the animals, we can probably bring back James Dean and Elliott Smith. But will they have a soul? That will be the concern. Ok, maybe i’m thinking a bit too far :p Anyway i think it is true that even though the DNA is still intact after 16 years, it might not be after hundreds of years. We have DNAs in our lab that have been stored for 20+ years and they are fine, not the best to use. But if the DNA from the extinct animals was stored in, what, -80 degrees? Maybe thats a better condition to keep the quality of the DNA. Hmmmm..
What about cryopreservation? That technique is commonly used to freeze down cells for future use. There are people who think that cryopreservation may even be used to freeze down human. So we can be frozen for 200 years and be brought back to enjoy the 23rd century. Even though this idea seems rather odd, a lot of people is hopeful that this idea may be used for medical purposes. For patients of untreatable diseases, they may be frozen down and only brought back later when treatments are actually available. Taking over the role of God? Maybe. It gets really complicated when you’re a scientist and also a believer. Ugh. No more thinking. I’ll let you play with the idea.

A girl in India killed herself over the issue that the world is ending
This issue is not totally invalid. The Large Hadron Collider experiment conducted in Europe started on September 10, causing a lot of fear that it might create a black hole that will suck the whole world into its core.
Even though scientists claim that this experiment will not create a black hole powerful enough to do that, people are terrified about the possibility of the world ending.
If the world is really ending in 4 weeks, should i continue coming into the lab and writing thesis? Oh decision-making time…. *headache*
