So im still in Jakarta… S got together with the boy. Totally made my week! I’m so extremely happy for her, which people might find weird since we’ve never met each other lol. But we’ve gotten to know each other quite well these past few months and of course im so psyched about her having a boyfriend now KK and J are moving to Brisbane soon! Im sad about J leaving, but also excited that KK is coming back to Australia. Not exactly Sydney, but Brisbane is closer than Singapore right? I’ve been watching more old movies, first being La Parapluies de Cherbourg (The Umbrellas of Cherbourg), an old French musical. It was a beautiful sad love story filled with beautiful people. Now i wanna name my future daugher Genevieve!! This movie was nominated for Academy Awards for The Best Foreign Movie in 1964.The second one being Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner? I had always wanted to watch that movie and im glad i finally got around to watching it. It was funny and smart and timeless. Seriously. Even until now, the year 2009, interracial marriages are still controversial and a lot of people still can’t accept that love can actually projects between different racial groups. Stupid people. And i love how Barrack Obama was “predicted” in the movie, when Sidney Poitier said that Katherine Houghton expects their kids to become the president of USA, and they will have multiracial cabinets. Oh it was beautiful! I got really emotional watching that part, and of course at the very last part when Spencer Tracy gave his unforgettable speech. It’s sad to learn that Mr Tracy actually passed away a couple of days after filming that last scene. And how beautiful is Katherine Hepburn at 60?! She looks stunning!! Even though i wish she would stop being teary-eyed the whole movie, she just breaks my heart when she does that! Oh yes and Sidney Poitier is YUMMY as always.. If you haven’t watched the movie, you should! But if you haven’t heard of the movie before, something’s wrong with you! Get away from the books and start watching more good movies!Anyway, im now planning to watch From Here to Eternity and Cries and Whispers. Yay!
What a cute and yet touching movie. The child actors are adorable! And everybody knows i love dogs!! Random thoughts: Look at the little girl! She’s soooo adorable it breaks my heart!!!Anywa this movie tells about children who are abandoned by their parents. It makes me wonder how common this kind of abandonment occurs, and what has the society or the system done to help them? I read in Judy’s blog that in 2007 a total of 525 Taiwanese children are abandoned due to inability to financially support the children or by the fact that they were born by single mothers. Why would people have kids and not support them? Like is it THAT easy to give up your own flesh and blood? Really, i cant imagine how heartless those parents are!
I’m just not sure how i feel about Jett Rink.At first, i have this overwhelming symphaty for him. Probably because he’s Dean, he’s hot, he’s portrayed to be the poor, misunderstood guy. But then when he got rich, he became snobbish. And what about him going for Luz Jr? ARGH. I somehow think that he was pretty much in love with Leslie, and due to not being able to steal her away from Bick, he went for the daughter. Hence in the scene where he got really drunk and talked to himself in the empty conference room he talked about how beautiful Leslie is and how everybody wants her, i guess that includes himself. I think he’s not a racist, not like how Bick was in the beginning of the movie, but i dont get why he wanted to embarass Juanna? Uhm, i guess thats the only way he could upset the whole Benedict family? I feel sorry because he became rich and yet felt so lonely. Hmmmm.. i finally watched the movie, its good. Dean was amazing. His portrayal of the old Rink was awesome, he was truly a great actor. The movie was painfully long though, and if anybody expects it to have the kind of ending modern movies have, they will truly be disappointed. It’s from the 50s, it’s not supposed to be compared to today’s movies.
