I went to this Chinese therapy centre Yu Zu Tang near my place today.
I have been having this back pain and it’s killing me, so i went for full body message tui na.
The therapist was a Taiwanese lady whose family name was Wu, and she speaks no Indonesian or English. And everybody knows my Mandarin sucks, so i was lucky that my dad drove me there and decided to stay and became my interpreter.
Anyway as i was laying there, my interpreter chatted with Dad while inducing just the right amount of pain onto my back and shoulder. She did ask if she was hurting me, but im a big girl and i can handle pain so i said to her i was fine lol. She then told my Dad that she thinks my back pain was caused by extreme cold. She mentioned that it might have been from the air cons, but i believe that it is the extreme cold from Sydney’s winter. So she was rubbing my back, and she said that the skin on my back got really red easily, meaning that there’s a large amount of “wind” in my body. She suggested doing fire cupping, and being adventurous, i said “Sure”. I mean i have done acupuncture before, and the idea of fire cupping doesn’t sound too scary. So she took out the glass cups, and a lighter. The first cup she put on my back was torture, and it was even more painful when it was slowly dragged towards my lower back. I mean having your skin sucked into a cup whose inside was heated with lighter was pretty painful, but the dragging means that the skin was sucked and pulled around to get the “winds” out. Anyway she did that a few times, and then she lit a total of 19 cups and placed them one-by-one on my back. So if you look at the link to the Fire Cupping (Wikipedia), you would know that the alternative therapy leaves terrible-looking marks. I took some pictures of my back, but my brother thinks it’s too disgusting to post them online lol. So the marks are like those marks of “kerokan” (traditional Indonesian “therapy” of using balsamic oil rubbed onto your skin and then rubbing the oil off your skin with a lot of pressure using some coins or circular things with slightly sharp edges), but they’re cup-shaped. Dis-gus-ting. Lol. Right after the therapy, the marks kind of protruded so it looks like i have humps lol.
I was supposed to take a formal family picture on Wednesday, but now i have this huge mark around my neck-and-back-boundary, and of course i won’t be able to wear any dress with those on my back lol. I am flying back to Sydney this Sunday. I think i’ll cry. I love my family i love my home.
Anyway my dad said that they will go away after a couple of days, well.. they better! I have plans to see friends this week, and NYE is only 9 days away lol. PS: I don’t know whether the therapy works on my musculoskeletal pain, but we’ll see tomorrow morning. My pain is usually worst after i wake up, so we’ll see. All i can feel now is some “burning” pain after the cupping.
